The Need
Air Products needed to create and deliver
interactive training globally. Air Products'
Environment, Health and Safety Division (EH&S),
wanted to take their existing instructor-led
training, video-based training, PowerPoint
and manual-based training, and transform it
into interactive, online, self-paced learning
that could be easily accessed by their entire
enterprise of 17,000 employees. In order to
make this project cost effective, Air Products
decided to develop this project in-house using
the existing training and support staff. Air
Products selected Macromedia Authorware as
the primary development tool, partially because
of its ability to accommodate the varying skill-levels
of the existing in-house staff. Authorware
combined a visual drag and drop design method
with the ability to create highly interactive
and visual learning, without the need to write
any code or have any knowledge of programming.
The Solution
Brookwood Media Arts provided a "custom" on-site
training package to accommodate the entire
group of 10 trainees and empower the staff
with the Authorware skills needed for development.
By having access to the subject-matter experts
and content, the Brookwood team was able to
build the curriculum to include the projects
Air Products training facility were already
developing. This gave the students the ability
to build working simulators and animations,
with the Brookwood instructor coaching and
mentoring good development and design practices.
When the class was completed, each student
received templates and models that were fully
functional with all navigational components
including buttons, page counters, glossary,
and tracking components for saving data to
an external file. These templates were built
by the instructor and demonstrated in the class
so the Air Products team could streamline production.
Students also had working samples that they
could implement immediately into their projects.
This custom training solution allows new developers
the ability to focus strictly on content, interactions
and rich media elements for higher retention
rates and faster development.
