Lean Operations
The Need Boeing
Company is the world's leading aerospace
company and a top U.S. exporter in terms
of sales. In 2003 Boeing was a $50+ billion company, providing products and services
to customers in 145 countries. Boeing employs
more than 157,500 people in more than 70
countries. Boeing was in pursuit of a development
partner to build a custom eLearning course
on the Lean Operations Processes used in
the rotorcraft division. They were in pursuit
of a partner with extensive Macromedia Authorware
knowledge and strong instructional design
experience.
The Solution
Boeing chose Brookwood Media Arts as the development & design
partner for this custom eLearning project, based
on their partnership with Macromedia and instructional
design background. Courses were built in Authorware
and hosted on the Brookwood Extranet during the
entire development cycle. Brookwood's project
manager & ID's worked with several subject-matter
experts from Boeing to properly "chunk" the content
for optimum delivery over the Boeing enterprise.
Brookwood's development team created "templates" for
Boeing, so internal Authorware developers could
use this course as a "benchmark" for other future
courses. The empty shell was saved as a template
and delivered to Boeing so they could streamline
production with less skilled team members that
were not considered "Authorware experts". Courses
were deployed and tracked internally to Boeing's
firewall. This allowed the internal IT team the
ability to tweak the data and update the source
code according to their specifications.
The Key Advantages
- Benchmark courses are in place
for future projects
- Source files are available
to Boeing for editing and revisions
- Brookwood
hosts courses for 24/7 evaluation during
the entire development cycle
- Training is
available to educate internal teams for
future projects
- Open architecture in the
source code for internal revisions and
adjustments
