Creating a "First-Ever" Enterprise-Wide e-Learning
Program
The Need
An International Pharmaceutical company (name
withheld because of Non-Disclosure Agreement)
came to Brookwood with a very prestigious project;
create their "first-ever" stand-alone web-based
training program to educate all employees domestically
via the Web. This training software would be
used for over 47,000 employees.
The Challenge
There were no manuals written to support the
content, and the training had to be completed
when the product was being launched. This meant
that the software would be changing throughout
our development timeline. Brookwood had to
be flexible to accommodate late software changes,
provide recommendations for optimum delivery
with "rich media", support the internal corporate
team, and complete the program on-time while
adhering to the company's "world-class" design
standards.
The Solution
The company's program included a great deal
of software animations demonstrating how to
use the custom software. First time students
had the ability to navigate sequentially through
the content to learn the software from beginning
to end. Advanced students could access specific
movies from the Main Menu to learn the skill
and return to the tool to apply that skill.
Lessons were broken into 1-3 minute movies,
which included; interactive controls, text
pop-ups with detailed instructions, along with
the ability to jump anywhere at anytime. This
type of instructional design will support new
employees, and existing employees who have
taken the training but need to learn a quick
task on an as-needed basis.
The Key Advantages
- The cost to train the entire
enterprise was only 74 cents per employee!
- All lessons accessible from
the main menu.
- Stream-ability to slower connections
(28.8K)
- Narration to support text
- Content is delivered in small
chucks to increase retention and maximize
download efficiency.
- Created with no manual download
of plug-in technology (Flash 5)
- Content is branded with existing
corporate portal and Intranet
