International Information Engine

Alcatel-Lucent's vision is to enrich people’s lives by transforming the way the world communicates. With an unparalleled ability to offer end-to-end communications solutions to their customers, Alcatel Lucent is focused on enhancing client relationships and enriching the lives of people through communications. In order to meet government regulations, Alcatel Lucent had a need to educate each and every employee on information safety and file management. It was necessary to reach thousands of employees with critical information in an engaging and memorable manner. The solution also needed to be on a platform that could be accessed internationally. The idea was to create a “teaser” or commercial to highlight upcoming training and entice employees to participate. This commercial needed to be translated into 11 languages with capability to dynamically switch between languages.

    

The Brookwood Solution

Brookwood created an XML-driven commercial or “teaser” engine that allows for dynamic loading of Flash slides. The dynamic loading of slides is invisible to the user allowing for minimal initial load time. Each commercial is set in a Question & Answer format to make it more engaging and personalized. The questions relate to employee positions in record management and are general enough that they can apply to every employee. All commercials are connected to a full training module relating to a specific topic.

Employees have the option of selecting their training in one of eleven languages thus making the training accessible to Alcatel Lucent’s 77,000 employees and operations in more than 130 countries. Additionally, the Flash engine can be reused for future training slides on other topics. This easily reusable engine dramatically reduces development time of future teasers and creates a consistent, standard format. The reusable engine dynamically loads the slides, allows for changing the localization and handles all user interactions. This approach adds value for Lucent, creating efficiency, ubiquity, and ROI development.
