The Need
Special Favors, a division of Running Press
Book Publishers, needed a powerful web-based
cover builder application to help drive sales
of the Running Press Miniature EditionsT, miniature
books sold as party favors, advertising specialties
and promotional products. Brookwood Media Arts
was selected by Running Press Book Publishers
to rebuild the system because of its ability
to develop complex interactive Flash applications
integrated into an eCommerce engine.
 
The Solution
The cover builder application, designed by
Brookwood, is an easy to use interactive Flash
program that guides the customer through each
step of personalizing the front, spine and
back cover of a miniature book to be used as
a favor for guests, a centerpiece arrangement,
or part of a gift basket for Baby Showers,
Wedding, Bar Mitzvahs and more. When building
a cover, users have the capability to select
from a library of images for their book or
upload personal images from their own computer.
After adding personal text to each flap of
the book, the user can save the book cover
or place an order for miniature books. In addition,
Brookwood developed the administrative end
of the cover builder used by Running Press
to batch print the customized covers and integrates
into their existing eCommerce database. "Creating a
rich user experience that is intuitive to build covers was extremely important
to the success of this project. However, the scalability and efficiency of
the administrative component is just as important in order to complete the
fulfillment process," said Robert Seskin , COO of Brookwood Media Arts.
