Dow Jones and Company maintains an online classroom edition of the Wall Street Journal geared towards teachers and students. They wanted to refresh the classroom edition website in order to offer more to teachers and students while driving more traffic and attracting advertisers.
The Brookwood Solution
Brookwood was chosen for their ability to quickly translate Dow Jones’ needs and concepts into reality. Brookwood’s intuitive designers created the site to engage the user, combining colors, imagery and the Dow Jones logo. The site was designed for optimal performance on 6.0 browsers and higher; sized for 800x600 minimum screen resolution; and designed to employ minimum bandwidth for speedy download of text and images.
The new site included a public and private area for teachers, offering functionality for authentication and login. The private site includes special articles, teaching guides, an archive, tools and industry resources. The public student site offers articles, worksheets, college spotlights, and more. Select areas of the site were designed for Dow Jones to update on an as needed basis. Brookwood provided the templates to create the HTML for each page article as well as the template for the listing of articles. This enables Dow Jones to create future pages and use existing functionality to upload them to the web server.
“The best thing about working with Brookwood was that they clearly interpreted our needs and translated them to the project. I was extremely excited when the first GUI Brookwood presented was exactly what I had imagined for the new site.”
